A case Report of Castleman's Disease of the Submandibular Area

Abstract
Castleman's disease is a rare disease of lymphoid tissue which was initially described by Dr. Benjamin Castleman as "localized mediastinal lymph node hyperplasia resembling thymoma". This disease is a benign condition of unknown etiology.
There are two distinct histologic types. The hyaline-vascular type is more common and asymptomatic. This type is characterized by small hyaline-vascular follicles and interfollicular hyaline ensheathed capillary proliferation. The plasma cell
type
is
characterized by large follicles with intervening sheet of plasma cells and often associated with systemic symptoms. Surgical resection is curative and the treatment of choice. In case of complete excision, the systemic symptoms abate and
recurrence is
unlikely.
Now, we report a case of hyaline-vascular type of Castleman's disease located in left submandibular area with review of previous reported literature. (Korean J Otolaryngol 38:1, 1995)
